I loved Halflife from the first release and played the heck out of it for quite a few years off and on. The voices are the same person for a lot of characters but that is just one of the little things I like about it. Watching that documentary trailer they just released about the making of Black Mesa and hearing that voice again brought back memories and made me want to play it again. So here I am, about to start yet another play-through of Black Mesa. HalfLife was a fantastic game for its time, no doubt about that. But BM has brought it into current times. I love the added puzzles, one of the things I most enjoy about these kinds of games. It’s fun figuring out where a valve is that I need to go turn on in order to make something else happen. Equally fun is the surprise baddies you run into along the way. There is something so satisfying about getting a clean headshot to a “walker” in this game. I always found the story of HalfLife intriguing and interesting. You spend the better part of the first half of the game fighting “walkers”, aliens, and other weird stuff. The little guy that attaches to a person’s head reminds me of the movie Alien. But then you spend some parts of the game fighting soldiers that are trying to contain the situation and keep you in there.
As of March 2022, I must say the current state of the game is absolutely terrific. The game is really polished and the changes that have been implemented throughout the projects life are significant, and overwhelmingly positive. A wonderful recreation of the original Half-Life experience. However, some things that are personal complaints, having had experience with the older versions of the game I must say that sadly some complaints persist, mainly for me as far as options the FOV option is capped at 90 for some reason, and as far as game play complaints, the marines are absolute bullet sponges, and their hit scanning attack is absolutely laser precise.
them and the turrets are an absolute pain, and feel a bit unfair, although both of these complaints can be mitigated through difficulty options. Other than that bit of criticism, this thing is just great.A group of half life fans decided to improve the first game game with a mod and made another one from scratch that takes all the best parts of original and builds upon them in every way putting most other companies trying to fit unnecessary mechanics into their remasters and releasing games in a worse state than acceptable to shame while scrapping the worst part of the game and replacing it with better and more meaningful levels than whole other games sold at much bigger price instead.
