This game is the love child of Hollow Knight, A Hat in Time, and Zelda (particularly Wind Waker in terms of art style). It’s pretty great, and criminally underrated. Things of Note The problems I have with the game mostly revolve around its lack of support for certain settings, including but not limited to: Lack of support for resolutions above 1080p (it was locked to that resolution for me, and I saw no way of changing it), an inability to switch to a borderless windowed state, and no support for PS4 button layout on controller, or any others besides Xbox.  Gameplay Gameplay wise, besides the mini synopsis I gave in the first sentence, I could mention the fact that there is no map, and little to no direction in the game’s quests, but this wasn’t a problem for me until I started going for completion, since I tend to explore as much as I can for stuff anyways. There aren’t many resources for finding the secrets, so I recommend looking at the Blue Fire Wiki if you are going for completion. Contrary to what you’d be led to believe from the “Soulslike” label, this game is laughably easy. Some platforming sections are pretty challenging, but combat against enemies is a little pathetic on Normal mode. I was considering playing on Hard mode because of this, but I didn’t wanna replay the first section of the game again to do it. I didn’t die a single time in my entire playthrough. Should you buy it? 100% yes, you should! Especially if that first sentence piqued your interest. This game is a pretty hidden gem with a lot of love and care put into it, even if it feels a little unpolished at times. This game does what it needs to incredibly well, and I can’t recommend it enough.

Journey through the desolated kingdom of Penumbra and discover the hidden secrets of this long-forgotten land. Explore mystical temples, where you’ll need to master the art of movement to survive increasingly difficult 3D platforming challenges. During your adventure you’ll slash your way through daunting adversaries, encounter survivors and take on strange quests to collect valuable items. Very fun metroidvania plattformer. While this is a souls-like mechanically, the combat isn’t anywhere near as much of a focus in this game and while there are a few bossfights these arn’t particularly hard, even on hard difficulty. The platforming and exploration on the other hand are a ton of fun. There is a passive upgrade system similar to hollow knight and it mostly focuses on improving the players plattforming abilities, which is a twist on a system. And some of the optional platforming dungeons, especially those in the DLC are really tough, but hardly ever feel unfair. Most early ones can be cheesed with endgame passives, but the later ones outright rely on most plattforming passives, making them really really challanging. Level design is a refreshing mix of modern metroidvenia level design with some throwbacks to oldschool playstation adventure games.
