A bizarre campus legend, take you into the traditional Japanese black and white comic horror story. Witness the familiar scenes and contemplate the terrifying moments.” is a series of short horror cartoons created by “九日十夜”, which brings together many long or short independent horror stories. “Ghost “in the pool” is one of the shortest short stories. As the first attempt at gamification in the series, we chose “Ghost in the pool” as the prologue of the series of games. This means that more exciting and longer games will be launched in the future. This game is developed by CASCHA and JOEY. JOEY is responsible for the Art and story part, CASCHA is responsible for coding/visual performance/sound effects/music. Special thanks to those who helped us complete and polish the game: TECHNICAL SUPPORT: As for the soundtrack, I wasn’t too fond of them (will elaborate later) but the main menu theme which is reminiscent of the PS1 startup music was serene and haunting at all once. And also the rock track that plays during the nightmare parts really dig at your soul, turning you feeble and susceptible to possession~ The story is not all about the supposed ghost in… you know. It also sheds light on the stresses and ranking of ability that comes with being in school. Yaru is under-performing academically but instead she focuses on her talent and strains herself so she can continue to go to that prestigious institute. I liked her personality and how she doesn’t gossip- not to other people’s faces anyway, something her classmates can benefit from~
CASCHA games is a solo developer from China working on two visual novels; Ghost in The Pool (GiTP) and in-development Sunset Paradise. GiTP is a joint effort with author and comic illustrator JOEY, to bring the latter’s horror works to life in a new medium. Due to a language barrier, sadly I cannot (though I’m Chinese) read nor check out the comics. However, I was hooked into this game because the title reminded me of a widely debated mystery in my hometown. I’m talking about how even the most experienced of swimmers end up drowning and it’s chalked out to be the result of spiritual disturbances. Therefore, I wanted to see how this would be incorporated into a game, if not learn about it from a different cultural perspective. Since this is my first early access title to review- a new heading called “Post-EA STATE” will be included to show what has changed since~ But enough chit-chat, time to make a splash!!If you play a lot of visual novels, it should be pretty straightforward. There are free-interaction sections and then choices that lead up to 3 possible final outcomes. However, the biggest difference here is in terms of how the story progresses where we are treated to cutouts and pop-ups much like a comic book! It’s very fun to see, and I wish there were more of those!! What’s particularly special is the way this VN tries to keep you engaged with what’s happening on-screen. Say when you’re interacting with objects, the game does this thing where it zooms in on them and you’re wondering omg what’s gonna jump out…!? Plus, as the story progresses you are put through rumble-like, distortion effects or more drastically filters applied to intensify the horrors that may come up!
