Man I saved so much water thanks to a couple of skills that I could’ve turned Sandrock back into an ocean. The NPCs designs and personalities are so MUCH better than the previous ones and they are all super diverse, obviously a plus in my book, which is why it’s so FRUSTRATING to see that the character content for many possible romantic partners (wink wink Owen and Fang). On a side note, I really really really (really) hope the devs keep up the good work (looking through the hotfixes bit is great, they are updating the game basically on the weekly) and give us Logan and Haru as like, y’know, possible romances because if cowboy bad why hot?

Sandrock feels like it’s taken two steps forward and one step back compared to Portia. It’s not to say that I hate the game, I’ve definitely been having fun, but it’s not what I was expecting. Some of the game mechanics are very similar, some have been improved but there’s also a lot of… filler put into different parts of the game that are just annoying or outright strange. The new combat feels just as clunky as Portia. There is now different attack combos (done by clicking in succession) on different weapon types that feel so stiff and forced. Monsters now also have barriers that you can break to get some extra damage and daze them. It’s just so awkward that combat quickly became incredibly dull. Oh and you can shoot guns now. The early game was fetching piles of scrap that basically give you everything you need and more for most jobs and commissions. It drains all your stamina so quickly that you have nothing to do but wander around, order ridiculous amounts of food at the Inn or sit on a bench for a measly amount of stamina regeneration. The only thing that quickens things up is tool upgrades that are few and far between. In Portia you could raise your attack stat to break things quicker but in Sandrock most gathering is locked behind “tool strength” with few ways to increase it, which I thought was a missed opportunity for gear and accessories. The townsfolk are frustrating. I’m sorry but I rolled my eyes at all the stereotypes and unoriginal characters. You remember that overly camp secretary from Portia called Antione? Yep. There’s someone called Pablo who looks incredibly similar, is very camp and this time LOVES FASHION AND GOSSIP. As a gay male myself I was so annoyed that this is how they portrayed what I think is their attempt at a gay character and I refuse to even talk to the NPC now. There’s also the typical old lady tailor and a character that is basically Annie from League of Legends (bear and all) to name some others. Free Steam Games Download
